  • Valves: Gate valves, ball valves, check valves in GI

Applications for GI Piping

Galvanized Iron piping is the industry standard for industrial applications in the Gulf region:

  • Compressed Air Systems: Main headers, branch lines, and drops for pneumatic tool supply
  • Fire Fighting: Fire hydrant networks and sprinkler supply lines
  • Water Distribution: Chilled water, hot water, and domestic water systems
  • HVAC Piping: Heating and cooling distribution networks
  • Construction: Scaffolding, structural supports, and temporary installations
  • Oil & Gas: Instrument air and utility piping at refineries

Why Choose GI Piping for the Gulf Region?

The UAE and Qatar's coastal climate presents unique challenges — high humidity (80%+), salt spray, and extreme temperatures (up to 50°C). GI piping's zinc coating provides a sacrificial barrier that protects the underlying steel from these corrosive elements. This makes GI piping more durable than black steel in outdoor and semi-enclosed industrial environments.

For high-pressure applications (above 20 Bar), we recommend Schedule 80 GI pipes which have thicker walls capable of handling the stress. All our Schedule 80 pipes are hydrostatically tested to 1.5x the rated pressure before delivery.

GI vs. Alternative Piping Materials

Making the Right Choice

Understanding when GI piping is the best choice — and when it's not — saves money and avoids problems:

  • GI vs. Black Steel: GI is preferred where moisture is present (compressed air, fire water, HVAC). Black steel corrodes rapidly in humid Gulf conditions. GI costs ~15% more but lasts 3-5x longer in corrosive environments
  • GI vs. Stainless Steel: GI is the cost-effective choice for general industrial applications. Use SS304/SS316L only when the application requires food-grade purity, chemical resistance, or ultra-high pressure — GI at 1/4 the cost handles 90% of industrial needs
  • GI vs. Aluminum: Modular aluminum systems (like Teseo, Infinity) are faster to install but cost 3x more per meter. GI is better for permanent installations where cost matters
  • GI vs. PPR/CPVC: GI handles higher pressure, temperature, and UV exposure. Plastic piping is limited to low-pressure, indoor, non-compressed-air applications

Quality & Testing Standards

Our Quality Guarantee

Every GI pipe we supply comes with a Mill Test Certificate (MTC) documenting chemical composition, mechanical properties, zinc coating weight, and hydrostatic test results. Our quality standards include:

  • Zinc Coating Weight: Minimum 350 g/m² for indoor use, 550 g/m² for outdoor and coastal environments — verified by stripping test per ASTM A90
  • Hydrostatic Test: Every pipe batch is factory tested at 50 Bar (Schedule 40) or 70 Bar (Schedule 80)
  • Thread Quality: BSP threads are cut and gauged to BS 21 standards — ensuring leak-tight joints with standard fittings
  • Dimensional Accuracy: Outside diameter, wall thickness, and straightness verified per ASTM A53 tolerances

Installation Methods

  • Threaded Connections: The traditional method for GI piping up to 4". BSP threaded joints with PTFE tape or thread sealant. Suitable for pressures up to 20 Bar (Schedule 40) or 40 Bar (Schedule 80)
  • Grooved Connections: Victaulic-style mechanical couplings for faster installation and easier maintenance. Popular for fire fighting and HVAC applications where expansion flexibility is needed
  • Welded Connections: For permanent high-pressure applications. GI coating must be removed at weld area and re-applied with zinc-rich paint after welding to maintain corrosion protection
  • Flanged Connections: At equipment connections, valves, and locations where future disassembly is needed. Gaskets selected for the service (rubber for water, compressed fiber for air)

Supply + Installation Service

Unlike pure material suppliers, Aamtron Group provides both supply and professional installation. Our certified pipefitters handle everything from pipe cutting and threading to assembly, testing, and commissioning. This one-stop approach eliminates coordination hassles and ensures that your piping system is installed to engineering standards.

We also provide cut-to-length and pre-threading services — saving your on-site crew valuable time. Need 200 pieces of 1½" GI pipe, 2.5m long, threaded both ends? We deliver them ready to install.

GI Pipe Questions

What sizes of GI pipes do you supply?

We supply all sizes from ½" to 6" in Schedule 40 and Schedule 80 thickness. Custom lengths and threading are available on request.

What GI fittings are available?

We stock elbows (45°/90°), tees, reducers, unions, nipples, caps, plugs, couplings, flanges, and valves. All zinc-coated to match pipe quality.

Is GI pipe suitable for compressed air?

Yes. GI pipes are the most widely used for industrial compressed air worldwide. The zinc coating protects against corrosion in humid Gulf climates.

Do you deliver across UAE and Qatar?

Yes. We maintain stock in Dubai and Doha warehouses. Delivery available to all emirates and Qatar regions.

What is the difference between Schedule 40 and Schedule 80?

Schedule 40 is standard wall thickness for normal pressure (up to 10 Bar). Schedule 80 is heavy wall for high-pressure applications (20-40 Bar). Schedule 80 has a smaller internal diameter but much higher pressure rating.
